ANTERIOR CERVICAL CORPECTOMY

For patients suffering from progressive cervical spinal stenosis and myelopathy, anterior cervical corpectomy is designed to relieve pressure on your spinal cord and spinal nerves by removing parts of the vertebral body and disc. More simply explained, this surgery involves removing the bones that are compressing your spinal nerves in your neck and causing you pain.

The benefits of successful anterior cervical corpectomy include:

  • Reduces your pain
  • Eliminates weakness and numbness caused by spinal stenosis
  • Helps you get on the path to a more active life

How it Works
Anterior cervical corpectomy surgery goes like this:

  • An incision is made to one side of the midline of your neck
  • A portion of the vertebral body and intervertebral disc is removed
  • Pressure on your spinal nerve is alleviated by removing the source of compression
  • A bone graft or bone graft substitute is used to attach the adjacent vertebrae
